Each week, Kirsty volunteers at the Sydney Children's Hospital (Randwick), implementing the
Creativity in Hospital program. The program offers 6 different forms of art interaction:
Free Art
Kids are able to draw or paint freely under guidance and supervision
Specific Art
Kids are taught how to create something specific (for example “how do I draw a cat?”)
1 on 1 Art
Kids work 1 on 1 with Kirsty to make an artwork
Group Art
A project is completed by several people
Watch Art
Patient watches Kirsty create an artwork, as they are physically unable participate
Class Art
Just like a regular Kirsty’s Kids Art class, students crowd around to watch Kirsty create a picture, and Kirsty explains the method along the way. After about 15 minutes, kids are motivated and inspired to go and create their own.
'Her time with the children not only brightens their day and distracts them from the horrible treatment they need to get better, it also develops their skills and teaches them to appreciate colour and texture and images.' - Kaye & David (parents) |
